2027-2028 FBC-LEO Essay Scholarship Contest

The Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (FBC-LEO) invites eligible high school juniors and seniors to participate in the 2027 Essay Scholarship Contest.

Essay Prompt

In 750 words or less, discuss a historical figure, movement, or milestone that has shaped you as a person. Support your ideas with examples and explain how that legacy lives on and what it means for your future.

Eligibility & Entry Requirements

Applicants must be 11th or 12th grade students residing in an FBC-LEO member municipality during the 2026-2027 school year.

  • Essay must not exceed 750 words
  • Essay must be typed or legibly printed (no cursive or pictures)
  • Use of AI, ChatGPT, or similar programs is strictly prohibited
  • Submit a professional/senior headshot and biography
  • Include a completed entry form with your essay
  • Previous contest winners are not eligible to apply

 Call for Nominations: 2027-2028 FBC-LEO Board of Directors

Lead, Serve, and Make an Impact

The Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (FBC-LEO) is now accepting nominations for the 2027-2028 Board of Directors.

As an FBC-LEO member, serving on the Board of Directors is more than a leadership opportunity. It is a chance to help shape the future of the organization, develop strategic initiatives, strengthen member engagement, and advance the mission of FBC-LEO throughout Florida. Your experience, ideas, and perspective can help guide the organization and create meaningful opportunities for current and future members.

Nominations are being accepted for the following positions:

  • 2nd Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Assistant-Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Assistant Secretary
  • Parliamentarian
  • Regional Coordinator/Membership Director (North)
  • Regional Coordinator/Membership Director (South)
  • Historian
  • Chaplain
  • Sergeant-At-Arms

The position of 2nd Vice President will serve a two-year term. All other positions will serve one-year terms.

Eligible members must be a Regular Member in good standing and have been a Regular Member for at least one year.

New officers will be sworn in at the Annual Conference that will be held February 25, 2027.

The FBC-LEO Board of Directors meets at 5:00 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of every other month. If you wish to be considered for a board position, please complete the form below.

Final membership renewal notices have been emailed to members with outstanding dues.  If you have already submitted your payment, please accept our sincere thanks.  If you have not yet renewed your membership, we encourage you to submit your dues payment as soon as possible to maintain your active membership status and remain in good standing with FBC-LEO.
